Crypto Spread Matrix — live price gaps for the same coin across twelve exchanges

What this page is (click to open)

Every exchange is its own order book, so the same asset can trade at different prices in different places at the same second. This page measures those gaps across twelve exchanges from current prices only: pick any two to compare, or let it find the asset and venue pair sitting furthest apart right now.

Venue bias — what each exchange does on every asset

What venue bias means (click to open)

Before any single gap means anything, one question has to be answered: is this exchange simply always higher? The table below takes every asset a venue lists, measures how far it sits from the consensus of all the other venues, and reports the median. That number is the venue's systematic offset — its conversion rate, its fee structure, its local demand — and it is not an opportunity on any one coin.

With Remove venue bias on (the default), each venue's offset above is subtracted before the gap is computed. What remains is the part specific to that asset at that moment — which is the part worth looking at.

How cross-exchange spreads are calculated

Only current prices are compared. Never the 24-hour change: each exchange starts its trading day at a different hour, so two venues can report different percentages for the same asset while their prices agree — subtracting those percentages would measure the clocks, not the market. Everything on this page is built from the price each venue is quoting right now.

Twelve exchanges quote in three different currencies. Won venues are used as quoted. USDT venues are multiplied by the live Upbit KRW-USDT market price, which puts the tether premium inside the conversion rate instead of counting it twice. The US dollar venue uses a published bank rate, which does not include the tether premium — that alone is why it reads about a percent below the others, and the venue bias table makes it visible instead of leaving it as a mystery.

For the all-exchange view, the reference is the median of every venue quoting that asset, not an average and not one chosen exchange. A median ignores a single broken feed; an average would be dragged by it. Each venue is then expressed as its distance from that median, and the widest spread is the distance between the highest and lowest venue.

Assets listed on fewer venues than the threshold are excluded, because a median of two numbers is just the midpoint of a guess.

How to read the crypto spread matrix

In the all-exchange view a red row means at least one venue sits well above consensus; blue means one sits well below. The two venue names in each row are the ends of the gap — the exchange where the asset is dearest and the one where it is cheapest at that moment. Sort any column by clicking it; click again to reverse.

In the two-exchange view the sign follows the base exchange: a positive number means the asset costs more on the base than on the comparison venue. The ⇄ button swaps them, which flips every sign.

If a feed falls behind, the page says so rather than presenting an old number as current. Prices are public market data read at the moment shown and can differ from what an exchange app displays by the length of that delay.

Why crypto price gaps exist — and why arbitrage is harder than it looks

A price difference between two order books looks like free money and almost never is. Moving an asset from the cheap venue to the dear one takes a blockchain transfer with its own fee and confirmation time, during which the gap can close or invert. Withdrawal limits, deposit holds and listing differences get in the way. Fees are charged on both legs. And on the venue where you want to sell, the depth at the quoted price may be a fraction of the size you would need.

Some gaps are structural rather than momentary. Korean won exchanges have run above global venues for years — the pattern traders call the kimchi premium — because capital controls and real-name banking rules keep arbitrage capital from flowing freely into and out of the country. That premium shows up here as the Upbit and Bithumb rows, as one case of the same measurement rather than a metric of its own.

Crypto spread and kimchi premium FAQ

Which exchange is the “right” price?
None of them individually. Each is the real price where it is quoted — that is what makes the gap real rather than an error. The consensus median is the most useful single reference precisely because it belongs to no venue.
Why does one exchange sit above the others on almost everything?
Usually the conversion rate or the venue's own demand, not the assets. That is what the venue bias table is for: it separates a property of the exchange from a property of the coin.
Is a bigger gap a better opportunity?
Often the opposite. The widest gaps tend to sit on thin, newly listed or unusual assets, where depth is shallow and transfers may be restricted. A gap you can actually act on is usually a small one on a liquid asset — and by the time fees are paid, frequently not there at all.
Does this page suggest trades?
No. SpreadAtlas publishes measurements and its own self-verified hit rates. It does not publish price targets, entry points, or advice.
